Grade 1

Curriculum

The curriculum will be outlined in more detail by the teachers on Back-to-School Night in September.
--All subjects are taught by the homeroom teacher with the exception of the "specials" (art, physical education, library and music--these are held once a week).
--Students are given weekly spelling and math tests as well as phonics quizzes.  Other subjects are tested upon completion of units in the textbooks.
--Tests will come home in a test envelope weekly.

Homework

--Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday.
--A typed two-week homework calendar is sent home on the first Monday of the two-week cycle.

Supplies

During the first few days of school the students will be given a supply list.  Parents will receive a note with the cost of supplies purchased at the school supply closet, for reimbursement to the school.  All other supplies may be purchased elsewhere.  OLP maintains a supply closet.  The supply list and costs are available at the office.

Backpacks, a small package of crayons or markers and book covers can be purchased elsewhere.  Clear plastic book covers are preferred.  During the first few days of school, students will bring book home to be covered.  Backpacks need to be a size that can be handled easily by your child.

Field Trips

One field trip is usually scheduled during the school year.  Grade one traditionally attends the spring performance of Marywood University's Children's Theatre.  Homeroom mothers usually chaperone this field trip.
